The InterRegional Festival is southern Africaʼs premier music competition for young artists of
all styles, not only is it a music festival but it is the chance for these musicians to change their
lives and that of their communities forever!
For the participating musicians, the competition represents the culmination of a long journey.
Selected from Local and National Festivals, the two best musicians from each country arrive
at the IRF having been tested, trained and transformed into national representatives. The
festival represents the culmination of an entire yearʼs activities throughout the Music
Crossroads program, which includes 34 Provincial festivals, 5 National Festivals and daily
musical trainings and events at the Music Crossroads centres.
Each IRF encompasses high level musical workshops as well as several opportunities for
young artists to explore the role of music in shaping their societies and addressing some of
the most serious issues affecting their lives as young Africans.
The Music Crossroads IRF 2009 is the 12th festival of its kind but the first ever to be held on
Zambian soil! Music Crossroads Zambia promises to make this an unforgettable experience
