For its 2nd edition, the Oceania International Film Festival "Islands in the World" organized by the French Embassy in collaboration with USP and the Alliance Française de Suva will show several films at the ICT Japan Centre of
USP; and like last year, film directors from the Pacific (New Caledonia, French Polynesia, Hawaii) as well as film directors from Europe (France, Italy and England) will be there to present their films.
The festival will showcase award-winning and highly-acclaimed independent films from around the world, with a special emphasis on films about Oceania.
Two local Kula Award films will also be screened at the festival, namely 'A for Apples' and 'Beauty Lies in the Eyes of the Beholder'.
The event will also see playwright and academic Dr Vilisoni Heneriko present the world premiere of Moana – The Rising of the Sea at the festival.
A USP Oceania Centre production held last year, Moana depicts the dangers of climate change and the resulting rise in sea level.
Some of the international films to be screened are British filmmaker Harry Freeland's In the Shadow of the Sun which examines the plight of albinos suffering discrimination and persecution in Tanzania.
The festival is generously supported by the French Embassy Film Fiji and the University of the South Pacific (USP).
