The theme of The Rwanda Film Festival this year will be under:''Red Carpet to Hillywood'' - it will be dedicated to bringing a true cinema experience to the communities in the hills of the Rwanda's remotest locations, the best of the local filmmakers and to create a film week in an event never to be forgotten.

In what has quickly become a tradition, the Rwanda Film Festival-Red carpet to Hillywood will come alive on June 12-17 in the hills (Hillywood) and from the 18-28 2009 (Kigali venues) with filmgoers, actors, producers and directors sharing the excitement as outstanding Rwandan filmmakers and independent films from all over the world are screened in casual, cinematic settings.
We chose to champion the domestic-made movies and the gifted hillywood filmmakers in an effort to stregthen and promote pride in our country's growing film industry. Today governments around the world and their partners have recognized the role of local film Institutions such as Rwanda Cinema Centre as potential tools for economic development. They are keen to promote film business as an activity that can cause trickle down effects of through the tourism sector.

Apart from providing a colorful event of film screenings, The Rwanda Film Festival will be a great occasion for filmmakers to interact with international guests and a wide range of events will be organized through:Our traditional Opening Night, the Women panorama, Children panorama, Youth Red Carpet, A tale on genocide films, Festival Award ceremony as well as the closing night.

Our 14-day festival is proudly brought to the community by the Rwanda Cinema Centre in collaboration with the Ministry of Sports and Culture each year and is projected to draw hundreds of visitors and artists from around the world. We encourage visitors and independent film enthousiasts from all over the world to come see the wonders of Rwanda.

Over the last 5 years the Rwanda Film Festival has grown steadily and become recognized as one of Africa's largest and most unique venues for filmmakers to showcase their work. It is a rendezvous of films ranking from fiction to documentaries, and animated to shorts. It is host to both internationally acclaimed films and locally produced ones, and it is seen as a source of information, inspiration and representation of less heard perspectives and voices. The films cover a broad spectrum of issues including human rights, the environment, social and economic development, and public health; and the festival stretches across the nation. From the bustling avenues of Rwanda's capital Kigali, to the rural communities of distant districts where films are projected on inflatable screens, the Rwanda Film Festival promises to be an original and enjoyable experience for all.
