The history of art is also the history of patronage. From the Medicis in Renaissance Florence, to Peggy Guggenheim in the 20th century, patrons, philanthropists and supporters of the arts have shaped  museums and allowed cultural institutions to grow. 
Today, raising funds is an essential skill for anyone working in the arts and cultural sectors –both in major art museums and smaller not-for-profits. Arts development and the search for a portfolio of funding opportunities is also relevant for existing commercial companies, as well as start-ups and entrepreneurs. In a competitive environment, successful fundraising is often the difference between stagnation or innovation and growth. Being able to fundraise successfully is critical across most sectors of the economy, but especially the case in the arts where it can secure the future of the organisation. 
This workshop will cover a broad spectrum of arts development – from individual giving, applying for grants from trusts and foundations, to working with corporate partners.
Combining a theoretical lecture with case studies and a practical workshop, the course dedicated to arts fundraising will cover:

• How to tell the story of your arts institution so it resonates with potential supporters
• How to find people who want to support your work and organisation, and discover what motivates them
• How to write about your project in a compelling way
• How to create a culture of philanthropy and motivate a board of trustees



The tutor of the workshop
Louise McKinney specialises in strategic business development in the cultural sector. Working with public and private arts organisations at the highest level over 27 years, Louise has gained an in-depth knowledge of strategic vision development, fundraising, implementation and organisational change. Prior to founding A-I-R, Louise was Development Director for Lisson Gallery, where she led a two-year organisation-wide strategic business review and devised a global development strategy. Between 2000 and 2014, Louise was Head of Development at the Serpentine Gallery and the Whitechapel Gallery, where she led the development teams on all aspects of fundraising, high-profile events, capital campaign auctions and other income generation activities such as artists' limited editions. Louise led complex public sector funding bids; created philanthropic engagement programmes and naming rights opportunities; led multi-year corporate partnerships across the fashion, financial services, luxury lifestyle and travel sectors. Louise devised, brokered and delivered partnerships for an extensive range of l clients from: Bloomberg to Hiscox, Goldman Sachs to Louis Vuitton.

The applicant will be personally contacted and will receive the confirmation by e-mail that his application form has been accepted. Once the candidate has been accepted for the workshop should fill in the official subscription form and the confirmation that the fee has been paid.
The fee for the workshop is 950,00 euro
