In 1958, as a woman gave birth to her first child in Senegal, a country that had offered her refuge, her native land of Lebanon was going up in flames, and plunged into the political chaos that preceded the civil war. A film essay of sixty-six minutes, 1958 was inspired by two events that marked the life of its director Ghassan Salhab, born in Dakar to Lebanese parents: his birth in Africa and the troubles in Lebanon during the presidency of Camille Chamoun.
