Idler Sein's perambulations become a layered declaration of love to the city of Cairo. Shot before, but edited after the Egyptian revolution.

A journey through Cairo, led by the voice of the contemporary'flâneuse' Sein. Her journey leads through the age-old streets, through colonial districts modelled on Paris to new apartments in international style. Using voices from now and from the past, Hala Elkoussy shows how'the City' is repeatedly reborn, resisting meanings just as recalcitrantly as its eight million inhabitants and in this way becoming into the megalopolis it is today.

De tocht van flâneuse Sein wordt een gelaagde liefdesverklaring aan the City, Caïro. Geschoten vóór, maar gemonteerd na de Egyptische revolutie.

Een reis door Caïro geleid door de stem van de hedendaagse'flâneuse' Sein. Haar tocht voert van oeroude straten, door koloniale wijken volgens Parijs' model naar nieuwe appartementen in internationale stijl. Hala Elkoussy toont aan de hand van stemmen van nu en uit het verleden hoe'the City' zichzelf steeds opnieuw geboren laat worden, zich even weerbarstig als haar acht miljoen bewoners verzet tegen betekenissen en zo de megalopool van vandaag werd.
