KAFE NEGRO, A HISTORY OF MIGRATIONS essentially tells the waves of migrations of Haitian workers in Cuba which have, over time, profoundly transformed the culture and demographics of the island and allowed the development of the coffee culture in Cuba. It is at the start the migration of the know-how of the French from Santo Domingo, the world's leading coffee producer in the 18th century, who expatriate themselves to Cuba with their slaves, fleeing the Haitian revolution, and introduce "the coffee revolution". In the 19th century, Haitian farm workers would come to Cuba again as sugar cane cutters, but after the sugar harvest, they would go up high to pick coffee.
