Koman i lé La Source
Genre : Social
Type : Fiction
Original title : Source city (La)
Principal country concerned : Column : Cinema/tv
Year of production : 1988

Running time : 30 (in minutes)

In Reunion Island, a young woman from La Source, a suburb of Saint-Denis, goes from house to house visiting people. She also receives a lot of guests in her house. She doesn't even realize that she is in love with a plumber, but since she doesn't pay attention, he leaves. It is after he leaves for South Africa that she realizes that she loves him.

Originally titled "La Source City" (because the subsidizers did not want a Creole title), this film, which Madeleine Beauséjour wanted with all her might, is about everyday life in the 1980s, in a working-class neighborhood of Saint-Denis. The popular Creole phrase "Koman i lé?" ("how is it going?"), which was finally used for the title, expresses the writer-director's commitment to showing the local culture.
Madeleine found the first encouragement in Le Port, with Mrs. Michèle Picardo, and Village-Titan, at the time of writing the script. Leisure activities, children's games, mourning, love, group life, street games, hopes of Creole art, volcano, street fights, etc. intersect. In 30 minutes, without showing it too much, the author says and shows everything... of this island that she loved and that was a little bit hers.
Our late friend Marc Polot was part of the crew, with his friend Richemond Gilas too, the trainees of the F. A. Gance and many artists from Reunion. What about filming? It took place at the end of 1988. Basically, this major work is a documentary fiction...
