Belleville, 1963. Alain, a ten-year-old boy, lives alone with his mother, who runs a grocery store-cum-café in the Rue des Cascades. The arrival of Vincent (Serge Nubret), his mother's black lover, turns his life upside down. As much out of ordinary racism as out of jealousy, the child begins by rejecting the newcomer. With his great kindness, humour and imagination, Vincent disarms the boy's prejudices and becomes his best ally. But his playmates do not necessarily have the same opinion...
