The image of Africa we have is that of a continent divided and devastated by war, corruption and poverty. Yet 20th-century Africa gave us visionary, daring resistance fighters that fought for a different Africa. Who are they? What has become of their heritage?

"United States of Africa" follows Senegalese hip-hop pioneer Didier Awadi as he works on a musical project revisiting the great figures of Black consciousness and their struggle. The film paints a portrait of an empowered, youthful and politicized continent, light-years removed from Western cynicism, refusing to be cast in the role of victim. Today, with massive geopolitical shifts brewing between East and West, Africa could be the cradle of the next global revolution. Would we even know it if it was?
