The Jipajiroa String Band is one of the most popular String Bands of Vanuatu.  Their #1 hit song is "AMA College".

Jipajiroa is one of a myriad of string bands in Vanuatu as it became popular towards the end of World War II.  Many of the String Bands come from the island of Espiritu Santo, a large mountainous island in the north of Vanuatu, but every island & every village have their own local string bands.  Jipajiroa comes out of Mele village on Efate island.

The String Band sound is based on Polynesian music. The Jipajiroa musicians play stringed instruments (guitars, ukuleles, and a unique one-string bass made out of a large tea chest) and percussion (drums or tambourine). Jipajiroa has four singers - two female and two male that alternate singing parts for different songs.
