On 16 September 2007, with the backing of Alliance Française and the UGCS/Goethe Institute, Black & White and Memories of Child Soldiers were presented for the first time at the Ndere Centre in Kampala. The performances, involving 15 professional Ugandan dancers and choreographed by Valerie Miquel, was so popular that the group went on to form the Burudani Dance Company. 



In November 2007, the well known French-German TV programme ARTE/ METROPOLIS featured them in a broadcast. 



In February 2008 they performed for the President of Germany and his delegation, as well as for representatives of the government of Uganda. 



They toured France in May 2008, Germany in September-October 2008, and East Africa in October 2008. 



In March 2009, Burudani Dance Company changed its name to the Uganda National Contemporary Ballet. Presidential advisor John Nagenda officially became Patron. Since then they have performed a minimum of twice a month at the National Theatre in Kampala. 



They have also created pieces for Goethe Centre, Alliance Française, Europe Uganda Village, Orange, International Woman Organization, Goethe Centrum, and the Global 2009 Smart Partnership Dialogue. They performed for the Ugandan Wildlife Authority to help celebrate the International Year of the Gorilla and at the Norwegian Embassy, as part of an international workshop for women's rights, for the prevention of domestic violence in Uganda. 



CNN broadcast a piece about the Company as part of their INSIDE AFRICA programme in December 2009. 



The following month Valerie Miquel was interviewed on French radio station RFI for the programme Plein Sud



Since 2007 the Company has presented 23 pieces: Solidarity, Stravinsky's The Rite of Spring, Maurice Ravel's Bolero, Just for Fun, Out of Control, Wo/Men Why? The power of Hope, 



The Uganda National Contemporary Ballet is the first international dance company in Uganda. 



In September 2013 they have participated to toe Festival I'TROTRA in Madagascar with KUUNGANA 



In April 2011, UNCB was awarded the AWDF Grant (Ghana) for its work and committed choreography. 



In December 2012 they received the EAA AWAARD as best EDUTAINMENT AFRICA dance group 2012
