Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso), February 28, 2019 - African critics are repositioning themselves in favor of the film industry in Africa and its diaspora. Present at the 26th edition of the Panafrican film and television festival of Ouagadougou (Fespaco) for a film criticism workshop and the African Critics' Awards, the African critics of cinema renewed on Thursday, February 28, 2019 their governing board. At the end of the Ordinary General Assembly held in the capital of Burkina Faso, the Senegalese cultural journalist and critic Fatou Kiné Sène was elected president of the African Federation of Film Critics (AFFC/FACC) for a three (3) years term.

For the first time since its creation in 2004 at Tunis, the AFFC/FACC has elected a woman to lead this great family of film critics from Africa. Current President of the Senegalese Association of Film Critics and former Deputy General Secretary of the AFFC/FACC, Fatou Kiné Sène comes with a proven experience in the field of cultural press and art criticism. "We will reposition the African Federation of Film Critics in Africa's film industry through strategic partnerships for the benefit of its members and African cinemas," said the new president after the General Assembly.

Composed of seven (07) members elected for a term of three (03) years, the new office of the FACC is composed of four (04) women and three (03) men representing North Africa, Central Africa and West Africa. This general assembly took place in the presence of a strong delegation of French and English speaking countries.

The new Executive Board of the Federation is composed as follows: President: Fatou Kiné Sène (Senegal), 1st Vice-President: Ahmed Shawky (Egypt), 2nd Vice-President: Fatoumata Sagnane (Guinea), Secretary General: Abraham Bayili (Burkina Faso), Deputy General Secretary: Sahar El Echi (Tunisia), Treasurer General: Pélagie NG'onana (Cameroon), Communication Officer: Charles Ayetan (Togo). The general assembly also elected two auditors: Renate Lemba (DRC) and Rodéric Dèdègnonhou (Benin).

For the president of the previous board, the Moroccan Khalil Demmoun, "a work of overhaul and repositioning of the Federation has been undertaken for a few years and it is hoped that the new executive board will continue in the same direction to strengthen the federation with a view to its efficient contribution to the development of the film industry in Africa and around the world ". By electing a mostly women's board, the AFFC/FACC shows the pragmatic path to join the act to advocate on the issue of gender in cinema.
