Students in various colleges of the country, under the Entrepreneurship in Action (Enactim), have ventured into fashion designing as a way of making use of their God-given talents.
Enactim is a brainchild of Hastings Golosi, a fourth year information technology student at The Polytechnic, a constituent college of the University of Malawi.
The organisation has a branch at Chancellor College, but they plan to extend to Catholic University of Malawi, Mzuzu University and Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (Luanar).
Golosi said the group designs clothing and accessories, some of which they showcased at a fair organised by the American Embassy.
He said: "But we are not limited to these. We encourage each other to venture into what we are best at. We have divided our businesses into six categories: fashion designing, graphic designing, music and video production, agribusiness and event planning."
Golosi said the group wants to promote entrepreneurship among students.
"We want to pull together college students to develop their different skills. We learn a lot of theories in school. We want to put such ideas into practice," he said.
Golosi said the group has already approached the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Institute (Smedi) and the Technical Entrepreneurial and Vocational, Education and Training Authority (Teveta) to assist them in the project.
