Uniqueness in the designing industry has been described as an element that can boost the cultural and socio – economic development of the country.
Founder of Chancellor College (Chanco) Project Rejuvenation Isabel Kumwembe made the observation during a fashion show at The Great Hall to  raise funds for the renovation of the college's open theatre.

According to Kumwembe, the designing industry in the country will remain fruitless if the designers do not have time to learn on how to improve their products as designing.
"Every country is known by its culture as such local designers need to invest their time, resources and energy in crafting garments that will be unique and original for Malawi," she said.
Kumwembe added that distinctive Malawian designed attires will attract a lot of local people within and beyond the borders as well as tourists to purchase the outfits which in turn will attract foreign currency.
On his part, Grant Njeula of the Swankman Designers whose attires impressed the audience during the show accepted that Malawians have no dressing code a development that negatively leads to cultural degradation.
"We are geared to design and produce quality garments to wash away the foreign dressing codes that are corroding our culture," he said.
Rosby Makawa of Summer Royalty Designers said the role that designers play in restoring and preserving culture cannot be overemphasized hence the need for a political will from government, stakeholders and the general public to devote themselves in supporting the industry.
Chanco Project Rejuvenation intends to refurbish the college's damaged open theatre to restore the platform where artists will be able to showcase their poetry, drama, music among other artistic events.
