Tunisian actress Hend Sabry, who headed the feature narrative jury of this year's Doha Tribeca Film Festival, shared her experience of the event that took place from November 17th till November 24th. Hend also praised the event's support to Arab filmmakers, and talked about Arab filmmaking after the Arab Spring.

The renowned actress described the festival as one of the most supportive film events in the region stating that "Doha Festival has two distinctive features; first it includes the official competition that introduces very important films; second it provides financial support to directors to make their second, third or fourth movies."

This year's edition of Doha Tribeca Film Festival witnessed the participation of more than eighty seven films from forty three countries across the world in three different competitions with a prize total of over $440,000.

About her experience as the jury president of Doha Tribeca Film Festival, Hend Sabry said "It was a very inspiring week full of hope where I was able to have a glimpse of the latest updates of filmmaking in the Arab World after two years from the revolutionary changes that's been taking place in the region." She believes that despite the obstacles facing filmmaking during this period, cinema is going to witness a huge jump, "Thanks to aspiring directors, producers and actors who fight for the prosperity of filmmaking in the Arab World."

Since 2009, the annual festival has attracted actors and filmmakers from around the world such as as Academy Award winner Robert De Niro, Egyptian scriptwriter and producer Mohamed Hefzy, Egyptian actor Khaled Abul Naga, Egyptian actresses Yousra and Nelly Karim.

Speaking of the role played by filmmakers after the 25th of January Egyptian revolution Hend Sabry said that Egyptian actors started to participate in independent cinema following the revolution, and despite the lack of financing many of them participated in many works. "Filmmaking should be regarded as an industry in the light of the changes taking place in Egypt nowadays, specially that I see no difference between commercial and independent cinema, after all survival is going to be for independent cinema that doesn't rely on the revenues of the box office.", added the Tunisian actress.

Hend Sabry has participated as the co-director of TROPFEST Arabia, the world's largest short film festival, which was held in Abu Dhabi last October. She selected the finalists together with John Poulson, the festival director, in the competition which included sixteen short films by sixteen aspiring directors from the Arab World.
