Entitled "Acteur de mon temps : un Voltaïque dans le Xxe siécle" and "Une autre conquête de l'Afrique par l'amour et la charité", these two books by Doctor Joseph Isoufou Conombo are an evidence of the itinerary of this old man, who lived under colonisation and independence, for which he was on the frontline in his country.

Conombo was a politician , indeed.

As a doctor for the colonial troops, he successively had high political responsibilities, in the French government within Pierre Mendes France's cabinet, before becoming the Mayor of the town of Ouagadougou from 1959 to 1961, then Minister of Foreigh Affairs under the 2nd Voltaic Republic and finally, Prime Minister under the 3rd Voltaic Republic.

"Acteur de mon temps : un Voltaïque dans le Xxe siècle", published in 2003 by Editions Harmattan, is a 230 page-book which outlines the ups and downs of the colonial era, the way that the children and parents underwent it.

As for "Une autre conquête de l'Afrique par l'amour et la charité", published by Editions Firmament, Joseph Issoufou Conombo pinpoints the schemes used by the first French commanders and the humane methods of the first white missionaries in Africa, made of charity and health supports. The writer is then drawing in his books some parallels between the two methods used by the coloniser.

86 years old, Joseph Issoufou Conombo still feels like writing, in order to convey his experience to younger generations.
