While some fashion designers are struggling to uplift their brands in the country, Lilongwe based fashion designer Lily Alfonso continues to fly the country's flag with the latest being a display of her designs in Amsterdam, Netherlands during the I am Fashion Weekend.

Alfonso leaves the country today for a fashion event which is set to bring on board 12 fashion designers.

The designer focusing her subject on creating jobs with her craft will be running the shots at the event under the theme Business empowerment: The secrets of a successful business.

"I am happy to be part of this event and I am looking forward to displaying my designs at the event as well as interacting with other designers from other countries," said Alfonso.

According to available information, Alfonso will arrive in Amsterdam on May 28 and depart on May 31.

The organisers have said people will be blown away by the fashions on May 30.

"I am looking at making several connections for Malawi fashion industry during the event but also sell Malawi. I am happy to once again get this opportunity and my appeal to fellow fashion designers lets work hard and utilise the resources we have to get to the top," she said.

Meanwhile after her exploits in Amsterdam, Alfonso who has represented the country at several fashion events will be hosting a Malawi Fashion Night with Ghanaian renowned actor John Dumelo at Bingu International Conference Centre in Lilongwe.

"This is a one night show and we are calling it Malawi Fashion Night and I am inviting fellow fashion designers to be part of it for we will have Ghanaian actor John Dumelo," said Alfonso.

She said during the night Dumelo, who apart from being an actor is also a designer, will be launching his clothing line.

"John Dumelo is a famous Ghanaian actor and is surely coming to Malawi and will fly straight to Malawi from Zambia. He is launching his clothing line and so this will be a special night. I will also be launching my online store," she said.

Dumelo has starred in several movies but Alfonso said this time around he will be showing his designs.

The Ghanaian actor and humanitarian, who was nominated for categories Most Promising Actor and Best Actor in a Supporting Role at the 6th and 7th Africa Movie Academy Awards (Amaa) has confirmed his visit to Malawi in a video clip.

"See you Malawi on the 5th of June," said Dumelo.
