Malawi's arts public relations (PR) consultant Emmanuel Mwanyongo has been selected to make a presentation at Impact Music Conference in Harare, Zimbabwe from April 29 to 30.
He will be one of the African music entrepreneurs set to pitch their business ideas to the conference.
Mwanyongo: I thought this was a good platform for me to share ideas
The conference, which is being hosted by Harare International Festival of the Arts (Hifa) with financial support from the European Union(EU), aims to promote use of digital tools to innovate in the music sector.
In an interview with The Nation, Mwanyongo said he got a tip from a Ghanaian friend who shared a link of the conference on social media platform,Facebook.
"I thought this was a good platform for me to share the ideas that I had been brewing for almost two years. Then I applied," he explained.
Mwanyongo said his paper was tailor-made for the Malawian industry, but might work for economies and industries that are just like Malawi.
"I will be presenting on how artists can make profits in this digital era. I will also speak about the status quo of the Malawi music industry," said Mwanyongo.
He added that he is optimistic his presentation will stir interest in potential investors in the Malawi music industry such as record company executives and music distributors.
"Personally, I feel this will help extend my opportunities in Africa and beyond. There are other music entrepreneurs who have big recording companies speaking at the event so that will be my chance to shine," added the PR consultant.
Mwanyongo is a trained journalist from Malawi Institute of journalism (MIJ) and manages a few artists in the country, including one of the top actresses, Flora Suya.
Impact Music Conference is organised by the African Music Development Programme.
