Muthi Nhlema, a Malawian writer whose short story Ta O'reva is leading in a freeditorial.com international short story award, is currently leading in on part of downloads and has since called on Malawians and literature lovers all over the world to support him by downloading the book.

Nhlema told Nyasa Times that he was humbled and happy that his story was making such awesome impact.

The winner, according to freeditorial.com website, will cart home US$15 000 (about K7 million).

It is a story of a troubled young man who brutally murders an Afrikaner farmer in modern-day rural South Africa. Nelson Mandela is, then, brought back to life in a post-apocalyptic future where he is forced to question his legacy and face what maybe the hardest decision of his life: should he save South Africa again?

Nhlema, also runner-up for the 2014 Dede Kamkondo Short Story Award for the story Legacy, is asking Malawians through social media to "follow the link and download PDF, Kindle or e-Reader formats to read the story."

He told Nyasa Times that he was optimistic his acceptance to compete for the award "will help put Malawian writing on the map."

Joanna Woods, a freelance editor and author pursuing a PhD in literature has described the book as "fantastic work! Timely and powerful."
