The General Delegate meets with Burkina Faso's film and audiovisual umbrella associations
On Monday, February 15, 2021, the General Delegation of the Pan-African Film and Television Festival of Ouagadougou (FESPACO), headed by its General Delegate Moussa Alex SAWADOGO met in the meeting room of FESPACO, the umbrella associations of cinema and audiovisual of Burkina Faso. It was the first person in charge of the biennial to make contact with the representatives of these associations and to exchange with them on the preparations for the 27th edition of the cinema and audiovisual biennial, which has just been postponed for reasons linked to the resurgence of the Coronavirus disease (Covid-19).
For General Delegate Alex SAWADOGO, this meeting is justified by the fact that the will to : "give a new lease of life to FESPACO, based on its achievements, absolutely requires greater involvement and participation of Burkina cinema and audiovisual professionals, both on the organisational and artistic levels". For him, putting cinema professionals at the heart of the event is of great importance. In this respect, he expressed the wish for an active and sustained commitment from Burkina Faso's umbrella associations in order to achieve the objectives expected for the 27th edition of FESPACO.
Seizing the opportunity, the heads of the professional filmmakers' associations praised this initiative which is one of the first to which they are invited. They also outlined certain concerns in terms of FESPACO's consequent support for the promotion of initiatives by cinema and audiovisual actors, support for the implementation of certain projects, particularly those carried out by women filmmakers. Furthermore, they promised to transmit their proposals to FESPACO in the near future so that they could be taken into account in the preparations for this 27th edition.
Seven associations participated in this meeting, which all parties wishing to see it continue, namely the National Federation of Cinema and Audiovisual (FNCA), the Association of Cinema and Audiovisual Producers of Burkina Faso (APCIAB), the Burkinabe Association of Film Actors (ABCC), the National Union of Women Image Professionals of Burkina Faso (UNAFIB), the Africa Doc Association, the Association of Independent Film Technicians and the Association of Film Critics of Burkina Faso (ACRIB).
