Radical: support a documentary on The Savoir Faire of French Hip-Hop

Genre : Film shoots
Column : Music

I am Miles Marshall Lewis, and as a Bronx-born NYC native covering African-American culture over the years, I've been an arts and culture editor, a music journalist, an essayist, an author, a literary editor, and a fiction writer.

Since 2011, I've filmed interviews with many editors and music journalists of Radikal magazine, and some of the French rappers who've appeared on the covers of Radikal's 96 issues. Now it's time to wrap everything up and complete the doc: with YOUR help.

With the help of producer Essimi Mévégué of France's Ubiznews channel, I hit the ground running to shoot Radical. So far, the documentary features rappers like Solo, Akhenaton, Disiz la Peste, Abd al Malik, Sly Johnson and Sidney; former Radikal editors-in-chief Valérie Atlan and Olivier Cachin; French hip-hop journalists Yasmina Benbekaï, Epée Hervé, Grégory Protche, Sindanu Kasongo and Fatou Biramah; former French Rolling Stone editor-in-chief Jean-Éric Perrin; former The Source France editor David Dancre; and American cultural critic Greg Tate.

With a great big S'IL VOUS PLAÎT, we need your support to bring this project on home! Post-production costs to wrap up the film include paying a translator to present you the most accurate English subtitles possible; music licensing fees; shooting our wish list of rappers (we need more rappers!!, like former Radikal cover stars MC Solaar, Joey Starr, Booba and more); paying for film crew additions like an American director of photography, film editor and screenwriter; and film festival submission costs.

In addition to your generous $/€/£ contributions, please spread the word on both sides of the pond and beyond!

This project will only be funded if its financial goal (23 146 €) is reached before sat. april 11th 2020 06:34
