The Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) has started the registration of all video halls, video libraries and cinema halls throughout the country, the commission said on May 18.

It said that the exercise will commence on June 4, 2012 in Kampala, Luweero, Mukono and Wakiso districts and later, it will be rolled out to the rest of the country in phases.

As the regulatory body of the communications sector in Uganda, UCC is mandated under the Electronic Media Act CAP 104 and the Stage Plays Act Cap 49 to regulate the film industry - including, but not limited to - video and cinematography halls.
