Best Film, best Director, best Cinephotography, best Production Design, best Supporting Actor (Hoji Fortuna) and Best Supporting Actress (Marlene Longage) : Viva Riva! won six awards at the African Movie Academy Awards (AMAA). Nominated in 12 categories, it was highly expected by the public and professionals gathered at the ceremony this Sunday, March 27, 2011 in Yenagoa, capital city of Bayelsa State in Nigeria.
Viva Riva! is the story of a man who burns his wings trying to get a taste of freedom. A man who wants to make his dreams come true in Kinshasa, the city of shattered hopes. He wants it all: money, women and exhilaration.
With these additional new awards, the film written and directed by DJo Tunda wa Munga (DRC) continues its international success through major festivals such as Berlin, Toronto, Hong Kong, Festival SXSW and the Pan African Film Festival (PANAF) of Los Angeles where it received the best feature film award. Produced by Boris van Gils, Michaël Goldberg, Djoghlaf and Tunda wa Munga, coproduced by Steven Markovitz, Viva Riva!, shot in Kinshasa, the film puts young actors like Mania Malone, Patsha Bay, Hoji Fortuna and Marlene Longage in the lime light.
World sales are handled by Beta Cinema. As of today, Viva Riva! is sold to the following territories: USA, United Kingdom, Canada, Benelux, New Zealand, Australia and South Africa. The film will be released in the United Kingdom on May 27, 2011 (Metrodome Distribution), followed by an American release in June 2011 (Music Box Films) and finally, in South Africa, on the continent of his heroes (Indigenous Film Distribution). The producers are currently working on a distribution plan of the film in the rest of Africa.
