Founded in Montreal in 2012, by Mathieu DENIS, Art & Essai aims to offer creators the means to express their vision of cinema and life. We strive to develop unconventional and provocative films that will retain their relevance many years from now. To date, Art & Essai has produced a dozen short films and three feature films that have been well-received in Canada and internationally.

Art & Essai is meant to be a film production company and a creative laboratory. We strive to develop eclectic and unconventional films that will still be relevant many years from now, among them Those Who Make Revolution Halfway Only Dig Their Own Graves (2017), released in theatres.
