Cyril Ducottet who formally operated informally as the Neo Lab with his partners Shams Bhanji from Tanzania and Michiel Van Osterhout of the Netherlands have now established a formal production house in Kampala with the intention of carrying on their dynamic approaches to production. Cyril Ducottet over the last ten years became one of the most distinctive creators of highly original music videos and multimedia presentations working with African musicians. Shams Bhanji was one of the first filmmakers in Kampala to commit himself to very short precise films which had a major impact on what we define as third stream film-makers: those not fitting into the downtown soap video scene nor into the bigger feature film scheme. However this group finally did produce a feature film out of Uganda which was actually shot on the island of Zanzibar in Tanzania. This film has already had a strong international showing. Also given the fact that Ducottet, Bhanji and Osterhout have a strong track record in very creative documentaries and have established special relationships with local NGOs such as Raising Voices that gave them unheard of creative latitude for their work bodes very well for this fledging organization which has already produced an initial set of unique documentaries and is currently in post production on an ambitious short film which follows up on some of the groundbreaking creative shorts they had made earlier as Neo Lab..
