"DOKU" is a documentary film workshop which brings together young Iraqi filmmakers of all gender, national, religious backgrounds.The workshop takes place in Sulaimaniya, in iraqi Kurdistan.

The aim is to discover the cinema of reality as tool of dialogue, to show its role in the constitution of the memory of a country, and produce a collection of films through a workshop production.

This workshop is a collaborative effort of the audiovisual NGO ALTERDOC and the French-Kurdish Institute of Sulaimaniya, with the support of the University of Provence,Tele Campus Provence, NisiMasa, network of young European filmmakers, Guerilla Sound, and Bridge Initiative.

Baudouin Koenig, film director
Baudouin Koenig, film director, professor at Aix-Marseille University (France), cofounder of ALTERDOC, audiovisual NGO French film director Baudouin Koenig has been working since 1982 in the Middle-East region. He has directed many documentary films, among which "Du Golfe au Kurdistan, des hommes abandonnés de Dieu" (Grand Format ARTE), "Turquie, future frontière de l'Europe?" (France 5). Besides his qualification as a documentary filmmaker, he took part in several cinema trainings in Kosovo and in Palestine.


Aram Saeed, director of the Kurdish-French Institute
Kurdish Iraqi journalist Aram Saeed has been one of the Kurdish television pioneer, by presenting live debates about social and cultural issues. He founded IKF in 2004 and is also a documentary film director.


Fulvia Alberti, film director
Native Italian French director Fulvia Alberti traveled around Iraqi Kurdistan in 1991 for the first time. Recently, she has been directing Monseigneur Rabban, évêque en Irak (France 2), and La télévision des Kurdes d'Irak (ARTE).


Myriam Chayeb, sound engineer
Lebanese sound engineer Myriam Chayeb studied in the Lebanese Academy of Fine Arts (ALBA) and in the famous Ecole Vaugirard / Louis Lumière in Paris. She works as well on feature films and TV series as on documentaries. She is also teaching sound recording at the ALBA and at the Lebanese University - Institute of Fine Arts in Beirut.


Ahmad Mahmud, film editor
Ahmad Mahmud works on various fictional and documentary programms for Kurdish television. He took part in the first ALTERDOC and IKF workshop in March 2008 and directed Hapsa, a documentary feature, with Shoxan Mahmud. Ahmad Mahmud also works as an actor.


Alice Guéguen, film editor
Alice Guéguen is a French editor and works for several television broadcasts (documentary films, fictions, music videos) and short-films. She has also edited video clips for a post-production company in New York City. Alice Guéguen has founded her own production unity in 2007 in Paris.


Pascal est assistant-ingénieur au Département des Arts du Spectacle
Pascal Cesaro, film director and researcher
Pascal Cesaro is an assistant-ingeneer in Arts du Spectacle departement at the University of Provence and he is responsible of coordination of practical activit of professionnal master "les méiers du film documentaire". Researcher with LESA, he discussed his thesis in 2008, intitled "the documentary as a mode of production in a shared Knowledge". He is also author of several publications on cinema. As film director, he made "The day before", a chronical of palliatives care units.

Ahmed Asso is responsible for the translation and research department at the IKF.

Saman Jelal, film director and member of the Kurdish-French Institute Council
As a Kurdish Iraqi filmmaker and DoP, Saman Jelal has directed numerous music videos for kurdish television and worked as a cameraman for a German documentary broadcast on ZDF. He took part in the first workshop organized by ALTERDOC and IKF in March 2008 and directed Chéné, a short documentary film. Saman Jelal is also a painter and a photographer.
