Empowering the Haitian people through art and culture

The mission of FOSAJ (Fondation Sant D'A Jakmel) is to empower the Haitian people through art and culture. By unleashing Haiti's vast creative potential and raising the levels of critical thought, our goal is to improve economic conditions through initiatives that will bring about positive and sustainable change. By building relationships through exchange, we plan to facilitate dialogue and global discourse. OSAJ is dedicated and committed to the following :
- providing artists and artisans access to education, exchange, information and marketing.
- providing the community access to the social, psychological and financial benefits of art.
- stimulating economic development through cultural initiatives in the form of quality events.

FOSAJ has made a substantial impact both in the local Jacmel community, and throughout the country.
FOSAJ runs one of Haiti's only centre for the arts that offers such extensive art training and such exciting opportunities for exchange.

FOSAJ was founded in May 2003 in Jacmel, Haiti by Haitian artist Patrick NarBal Boucard and South African artist Kate Tarratt Cross. After finishing their art studies in Great Britain, the couple decided to return to Haiti to create a space where Haitian artists and artisans can evolve, develop their potential and earn comfortably from their individual production.
Thanks to the support of friends, family and financial contributors who believed in the idea, FOSAJ was able to become more than just a concept.
