Keiga Dance Company was founded in 2004 by Jonas Byaruhanga with the aim to provide young people with a platform to express and communicate thoughts and ideas relevant to their daily lives through the performing arts.

Having gained a wealth of experience through workshops and collaborations with internationally acclaimed choreographers, including Germaine Acogny (Senegal), Longa-fo (DRC), Annette Vogel (Germany), Mark Tompkins (France) and many others, Jonas was encouraged to build foundations for the development of professional dance and choreography in his home country Uganda. This idea became Keiga Dance Company.

Keiga Dance Company is working towards establishing a performing arts centre, Keiga Dance Centre, in 2014 to serve as a platform for young, talented East Africans to train professionally in dance as well as to work with the performing arts as a means to bring about social and economic change. The aim of the Keiga Dance Centre is to help further the development of contemporary African forms of dance in Uganda and East Africa. The existence of such a centre would further dance training and practice, performance, choreographic research and cross-cultural exchange.
