HISTORICAL BACKGROUND AND MOTIVES

The first ideas of creating the Université du Lac Tanganyika (ULT) as private institution goes back to March 1999. It came as result of reflection and shared viewpoints by the pioneers on the evolution of Burundian education system, the future of the professionals and students in stiff competitive environment nationally and internationally. The same environment has become pitiless to scientific and professional mediocrity.

Also, the University was a logical way of responding to the need of institutional framework able to provide better solutions to the ever increasing economic, political, and social problems facing Burundi and the whole region. In fact, the evolution of economic, political, and social systems (which are logically linked each one another), requires talented human resources who can manage the systems whose evolution is more and more complex. The role played by each society in the development process depends on the capability of its people to understand and manage systemic changes. The project of creating the private Université du Lac Tanganyika is placed under the perspective of general and specific frame.
