Alphanso Blake was born 1971 in Jamaica, West Indies. His talent was recognized at an early age, and by his high school years, he was earning awards as the "Most Outstanding Student in Art". He attended Edna Manley College of Visual and Performing Arts, the leading art education institution in the English- speaking Caribbean.

Blake started working in oils in 1989 but has since moved on to acrylics - which he now uses exclusively.Although clearly influenced by art professionals such as Jamaican masters Barrington Watson and George Rodney and African American giant Joseph Holston, Blake with appreciation of his god-given talents, has consistently worked to strengthen his craft and find his own voice.
