Anare Somumu is a well known and loved name among children in Fiji for his illustrations of children's books. As a painter, he has won National Arts awards, and has represented Fiji around the Pacific.

Anare's art career began in 1991 as a children's book illustrator for Fiji's Curriculum Development Unit (CDU).  His interest in art though started way back at the tender age of 3 when he was introduced to his grandfather RusiateTubuka.  Anare's passion for art was so intense that he had to forfeit a future in dentistry for an art career, which in Fiji at that time was considered suicidal due to disregard and lack of art market.
