Edson Sithole started out as an architecture student at university. After graduation, he pursued a career in film and his first short film "The Violin", shot on location in Calgary, is about the cultural conflict within an immigrant family where the African-born mother clashes with her Canadian-born son. As an immigrant to Canada himself, born and raised in Zimbabwe, he knows how identification with his culture of origin and his new cultural environment is sometimes a conflicting issue. This guides the stories he wants to tell.
