Iddi Achieng' is a multi-talented artiste: singer, screen, actress on radio, screen and stage, as well as a sociologist and the founder and executive director of the Iddi Achieng Trust (TIAT), a community focused organization. She is a mainstay in the rapidly rising benga music that fuses Kenyan cultural beats and exotic tunes.
Born in Nairobi to a family of musicians, Achieng started singing in a church choir before joining the Nairobi City Ensemble, where she honed her musical talent. Besides singing in Dholuo, her mother tongue, Achieng also sings in Swahili, English, Dinka, Luganda and Arabic. Her multilingual abilities have brought her to perform in Ethiopia, Djibouti, Tanzania, Uganda, Sweden, Norway and at the Smithsonian Folklife Festival in Washington DC 2014.
