Jibril Mailafia is a Young award winning Nigerian Filmmaker. His specialty includes film Directing, Editing and Animation. He has a Diploma Certificate in Theater Arts from the UNIVERSITY OF JOS and a Bachelor of Film Arts Degree from the National Film Institute, Jos.
Jibril hails from Nassarawa state in the middle belt of Nigeria. He came in contact with filmmaking in 2006 when he participated as a Production Assistant/Grip in an NFC Film Production. His love for filmmaking has grown into a strong passion for the art ever since.
Jibril who is best known as an animator has over the years edited over 30 short films and 10 feature films. He has personally produced and directed 9 short films and animations. He has worked as a film editor with notable Nigerian Filmmakers like Kunle Afolayan in OCTOBER 1, Kenneth Gyang in HOW I MADE MY FIRST MILLION; an Ebony live television series amongst others. Jibril has worked as an animator with international organizations one of which is the German Mission to Nigeria.
Jibril has won over 13 awards and numerous nominations from the short films and animations he has produced and directed. In 2013 his animation film MISSION POSSIBLE was nominated in the BEST ANIMATION CATEGORY at the Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA 2013). In 2014 he won the BEST EXPERIMENTAL FILM award at the Abuja international film festival (AIFF 2014). In 2015 he was listed among the 2014; Top 6 Most Achieved Individuals Under The Age Of 30 by www.speshworld.com. http://speshsworld.com/spotlight-top-six-2014-achievers-under-30-we-love/. In 2015 His experimental animation THE THRONE was nominated for BEST SHORT FILM at the AFRICA MAGIC VIEWERS CHOICE AWARD (AMVCA 2015). THE THRONE was also nominated for BEST ANIMATION at the 2015 Africa Movies Academy awards (AMAA 2015) which was held in South Africa. THE THRONE won the MOST INNOVATIVE PROGRAMME at the Mohammed Amin Africa Media Awards 2015 in Nairobi Kenya.
Jibril has just recently wrapped up shooting on his first feature film titled ON A TRIP under the Darwin 1st shot initiative.
