Mary Collis
Painter
Principal country concerned : Column : Fine arts

Was born in 1950 in Nairobi and is a second generation Kenyan. Regarded as one of Kenya's leading colourists, Mary trained as a graphic designer before turning to painting on a full-time basis. Her works are for the most part an expressive reaction to her environment, "her observation of colour, and the way it changes."

Mary has had many one-woman art shows around the world. She is also a strong enthusiast of the local art scene, and has organized workshops for artists, has been a trustee of some of the leading arts institutions in Kenya including the well known Kuona Trust and is a co-founder of the Rahimtulla Museum of Modern Art here in Kenya (which has however since closed).
