Algerian Film Director, Scriptwriter, Film Editor, Producer and Visual Artist. Alternate name Mohamed Rachid BENHADJ Rachid Benhadj was born in Algiers in 1949. A graduate in architecture and cinema and audiovisuals, his first film was the end of course film Immigrazione. After having directed several shorts and feature films, in 1994, his Touchia, cantique des femmes d'Alger won the Public's Prize at the then African Film Festival in Milan. He then directed other feature films, including Mirka, presented at the Thessaloniki International Film Festival, and For Bread Alone which in 2007 was awarded the Globo d'Oro. He currently teaches at Cinecittà at the Act Multimedia School of Directing. Laureato in architettura e in cinema e audiovisivi, il suo primo film è il corto di diploma Immigrazione. Dopo aver diretto numerosi cortometraggi e lungometraggi, nel 1994 il suo Touchia, cantique des femmes d'Alger vince il Premio del Pubblico all'allora Festival del Cinema Africano di Milano. Firma poi altri lungometraggi, tra cui segnaliamo Mirka, presentato al Thessaloniki International Film Festival, e Il pane nudo, premiato nel 2007 con il Globo d'Oro. È attualmente docente a Cinecittà presso la scuola di regia Act Multimedia.
