Was born and raised in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and travelled to the United States to attend university and play Division I NCAA tennis. After finishing university, he attended post-graduate studies in Filmmaking at the University of Montana. "The Athlete" (2009), inspired by the life of Ethiopia's athlete Abebe Bikila, is his debut feature film.
