Allers began his animation career in the 1970s working at Lisberger Studios. That was followed by feature work for Nelvana in Canada and for Tokyo Movie Shinsha in Japan. In 1986, Allers would fulfill his childhood dream of working at Disney. His credits as a story artist there include "The Little Mermaid", "Beauty & the Beast", and "Aladdin", among others. His first film as a director was "The Lion King".He also co-wrote the Broadway stage adaptation.
