British Screenwriter and Director
Born in South London, single mum of two. SHAKIRA MEGHIE began her journey as a dancer who attended the Brit School of Performing Arts, majouring in Dance and Media Studies. Graduating in Choreography she worked for various record labels including Sony, London Fashion Week and Theatre Productions. Shakira began working directly storyboarding and assisting directing music videos which saw her work with some of the biggest stars to date in the business. In 2012 she partnered with Carla Buckingham to open Sisterhood Productions a film production company that helped platform unseen talent in screenwriter and acting in London. As a self taught screen writer Shakira began creating film scripts and TV concepts. Her work caught the attention of Martina Cole and Noel Clarke, ITV and MTV. Shakira's first partnered screenplay feature'Lewisham Girls' a true story of a 1977 girl gang, made its way into the media after it touched the sensitive issue of riots in London and female gang crime which went on to be mentioned in the Houses of Parliament. Shakira now works independently as a motivation speaker and screenwriter to bring black concepts to television as she would like to fill the void on TV screens in the UK. She has now created new mixed ethnic TV dramas and film that touches on the controversial issues that many people of mixed heritage face today. I want to bring a hard hitting twist to my work and leave a strong message. For to long do we turn away from the issues that are highlighted to us everyday. Shakira's isn't afraid to speak up through her screenplays has people nick name her Truth as she never fails to bring that to her work.
