Born in Marseille in 1962
Painting, engraving, drawing

Sophie de Garam studies architecture at Luminy-Marseille then goes to live in the USA. She discovers the Pacific in 2000 with her husband and three children and move to Vanuatu. Artists and travelers, Sophie and Pieter live in Port-Vila and Marseille.
Sophie's work is part of numerous private and public collections in New York, Sydney, Aix en Provence, Paris and Port-Vila.

When talking about her work's relationship to Vanuatu, she says "The ephemeral dimension in traditional art of Vanuatu is what I am particularly interested in. The stories behind the sand-drawings for example are like an invisible spine that give them coherence.
I have been influenced by this idea in my own work, particularly in my paintings of "random" lines, that are about fluid lines over a pattern or story being revealed."
Her use of engraving techniques are also about "under stories" being revealed and allow the viewer to unfold and discover more layers as his eyes roam throughout the work.
