Tarek Ehlail was born on August 31, 1981 in Homburg, Saarland, West Germany. He is a writer and director, known for Volt (2016), Gegengerade (2011) and Chaostage (2009).

Author and director Tarek Ehlail was born and raised in the region of Saarland, located at Germany's southwestern border with France. At age 20 he owned two piercing studios, while pursuing a successful boxing career.

Tarek Ehlail's path to filmmaking was therefore rather unusual. Self-taught, he started out by shooting documentaries and music videos, before he braved the step to shoot and produce feature films. The work on "wild" and "unruly" films such as CHAOSTAGE and GEGENGERADE was a process of learning by doing and here he bore all risks by himself. Despite modest means he managed to realize films that attracted attention and featured a prestigious cast, with Mario Adorf, Moritz Bleibtreu, Wotan Wilke Möhring, Denis Moschitto, Christoph Letkowski, Stipe Erceg, to name but a few.
