The Institute of Caribbean Studies (INEC), the León Jimenes Cultural Center (Centro León), and the Ministry of Culture of the Dominican Republic call jazz festival producers in the countries and territories of the Greater Caribbean (the Antilles and continental territories touched by the Caribbean sea) to a Regional Meeting of Greater Caribbean Jazz Festivals. This meeting will be held within the context of the Fourth International Conference on Music, Identity and Culture in the Caribbean (MIC), held April 15-17, 2011, in the facilities of the Centro León in Santiago de los Caballeros, Dominican Republic. The theme of the conference is "Jazz from the Caribbean Perspective."

The Meeting of Greater Caribbean Jazz Festivals is intended to bring together directors and organizers of jazz festivals in Spanish speaking countries (Puerto Rico, Cuba, Venezuela, Colombia, Panama, Mexico, Dominican Republic), and in non-Spanish speaking countries of the region (Curacao, Trinidad and Tobago, St. Lucia, and others). Those in attendance will share experiences and analyze the possibilities of joining forces to make each country's jazz offerings visible through a Jazz Circuit of the Caribbean.

The following are included among the anticipated results of the meeting:
- A systematization of relevant experiences of jazz festivals in the Greater Caribbean.

- The development of a common list of contacts for organizers of jazz festivals in the region.

- A discussion of the development of a common agenda for organizers of jazz festivals that includes basic topics of interests to be pursued in the future.

- An analysis of the possibilities of joining forces in order to make each country's jazz offerings visible through a Jazz Circuit of the Caribbean.

- The creation of an effective coordination among all festivals in order to facilitate greater participation and interaction in the Caribbean by musicians, jazz aficionados other interested groups.

The schedule for the First Meeting of Greater Caribbean Jazz Festivals includes:
- Work sessions with presentations about national experiences given by jazz festival organizers.
- A session to discuss the common agenda of jazz festivals in the Greater Caribbean.
- An exhibition and sale of materials from the various festivals, held in the Caribbean Music Collectors' Room (during the Conference).
- Attendees' participation in the artistic activities of the Conference (including well-known jazz musicians from the region).

The results of the first Meeting will be published in a book including the keynote sessions, presentations and memories of the Fourth MIC Conference.
