Koya Cresantia Frances

Cresantia Frances Koya was born and raised in Fiji. She is of mixed ethic-background including Irish, Samoan, Indian and Arabia with a bit of Solomon and Fijian in the mix. Although her work prioritizes scholarly writing and research, she has been involved in a number of art mediums from a young age including fashion design, drawing, painting, and writing. A member of the Niu Waves writer's collective, her first collection of poetry; "of schizophrenic voices" was published by the Pacific Writing Forum in 2002. She also founded Post-Script Writers' group for secondary school students which was housed at the Alliance Francaise in Suva, 2000-2001. After completing her Master of Arts in Education in 2002, she focused on scholarly pursuits. She is currently working towards a number of projects including a compilation of her mother's stories, poetry and photographs in collaboration with her nice Marie. She is also working on a number of project including the Fiji Emerging Women Writers project and Wasawasa: Festival of Oceans 2008 in conjunction with Kalamwasa: Festival of Writing 2009; and the Mama Hanua Project 2008-2010. She attended the Pacific Arts Festival in Pago pago this year as contemporary writer in the Fiji Delegation.
