Boubon is one of the major pottery centers of Niger even though there is no large scale or centralized production: pottery is made by women in individual households. The pots are sold on the large and colourful weekly market on Wednesdays where also cattle is bought and sold, and meat, fruits, vegetables, household articles, clothing, shoes, etc.
There used to be a Campement Touristique on the island in the river facing Boubon, with a restaurant, a pool, and cabins to stay for the night. Mainly expatriates from Niamey came here, crossing to the island by pirogue. But it has been closed for a number of years and it now looks abandoned and derelict.
This project, whose direct beneficiaries are the women potters of Boubon, intends: to promote the cultural recognition and the patrimonial wealth of a know-how transmitted from generation to generation which will allow development efforts while facilitating the capacity of empowerment Potter women of Boubon. This project will lead to the improvement of women's manufactured products; elimination of barriers and exclusion factors; as well as improving their capacity in terms of training and self-management. In this way, the present project seeks to provide a social response to these "social underprivileged" women and their communities, which affects the improvement of their quality of life and, as a result, allows for hope for the future know-how and for the future.
Development through culture, the strengthening of culture, the promotion of art in general and humanitarian development actions and capacities are the essential bases on which our NGO is based. It is through these orientations of the NGO Culture Art Humanity (NGO CAH) that the substrate of this project is generated. In addition, this project will rely on ethical and respectful approaches, based on its own needs, to promote its evolution.
