En présence de la réalisatrice sénégalaise Fatou Kandé Senghor
AfricAvenir vous convie le dimanche du 2 Février 2014, à 17h30 heures à la Premiere allemande de la docu-fiction "L'Autre en Moi" (The other in me, OengU) au Hackesche Höfe Kino.
L'autre en moi raconte le parcours singulier de deux jumeaux sénégalais, de leurs retrouvailles dans leur pays natal. L'un était parti aux États- Unis, l'autre est rentré depuis déjà 20 ans au pays. Le choc est profond, d'autant plus qu'ils sont confrontés à un autre qui est le miroir parfait d'eux-mêmes, leur frère jumeau. Fatou Kandé Senghor ne cherche pas à trouver une réponse à la question de l'identité, plutôt elle pousse le débat sur le concept lui-même.

Suite la projection auront lieu un débat public avec la réalisatrice Fatou Kandé Senghor et une petite réception dans la salle d'accueil du cinéma.

Synopsis
Cette docu-fiction relate l'histoire de deux frères jumeaux, qui ont eu deux chemins de vie à l'opposé l'un de l'autre. L'un des frères a vécu pendant plusieurs années aux États-Unis, où il a bâti son existence, tandis que l'autre frère est retourné vivre dans sa terre natale, le Sénégal, depuis longtemps déjà. Parti à la recherche de son identité, l'un des frères quittant les USA, s'est résolu à sortir de sa solitude, pour emprunter avec son frère le chemin d'une quête identitaire au Sénégal.

Au Sénégal, la terre de ces ancêtres, il suit les traces de ses origines et va être ainsi amené à vivre des moments de joies mais aussi de peines. En outre, il va vivre cette quête à travers le reflet du miroir qu'est son frère jumeau, ce qui, inévitablement, va conduire à un conflit identitaire.

„L'autre moi"est un film sur la quête personnelle de sa propre identité, et de là ce film évoque le sentiment de perte et de perdition dans une société qui n'est pas la nôtre, révélant ainsi l'importance du voyage vers ses origines, afin de connaitre et de comprendre d'où l'on vient.

Fatou Kandé Senghor à propos du film:
„Ce film accomplit sa mission, il m'a permis de parler de l'immigration différemment, en ne parlant pas du moyen de transport, mais du finish line. Les gens partent car c'est nécessaire. Une fois là-bas, après, si on a plusieurs enfants, c'est difficile de revenir à la fréquence qu'il faudrait. Beaucoup de paramètres relèvent de la vie de nos parents et l'on ne peut pas les juger. L'Autre en Moi ne pointe pas du doigt, mais relate une tranche de vie réelle, afin que les gens comprennent que dans la vie, certes on ne choisit pas, mais si l'on est alerte on peut remédier aux aléas."

La réalisatrice: Fatou Kandé Senghor
Fatoumata Bintou KANDE est née le 09 Janvier 1971 à Dakar, au Sénégal. Elle a fondé une platforme de recherche artistique nommée Waru Studio à Dakar qui fonctionne comme un laboratoire d'experimentation - Art- science-technologie -Ecologie et Politique du changement, un incubateur qui allie toutes ces sciences en utilisant les nouvelles technologies. Convaincue que l'art en Afrique noire est une arme très efficace pour résoudre les problèmes des africains, elle incite beaucoup de jeunes venus de tous horizons a fréquenter le studio waru pour affûter leurs intuitions artistiques et technologiques au profit des sénégalais et des africains.

Son grand souhait est de voir ces jeunes artistes contemporains dont elle fait parti participer activement au développement et à la dynamisation des médias et de la communication dans un environnement professionnel offrant des perspectives d'avenir.

Elle a une expérience solide tant par sa diversité que par son caractère international, une sensibilité à l'évolution de l'environnement social, une ouverture culturelle acquise au gré de nombreux séjours en Afrique et à l'étranger et une plume taquine et audacieuse. Un tout à mettre au service d'une jeunesse engagée et soucieuse de performance.

Elle est également photographe et a créé les costumes pour les films Faat Kiné de Sembène Ousmane, Off Road de Berenghar Fall et Madame Brouette de Moussa Sène Absa. Elle a également réalisé plusieurs reportages et des documentaires.

In Anwesenheit der senegalesischen Regisseurin Fatou Kandé Senghor lädt AfricAvenir am Sonntag, den 2. Februar 2014 um 17:30 Uhr zur Deutschlandpremiere der Doku-Fiktion „L'Autre en Moi" (The Other in Me, OengU) ins Hackesche Höfe Kino ein. Der Film zeigt die gemeinsame Reise eines amerikanisch-senegalesischen Zwillingspaars, das jahrzehntelang in unterschiedlichen Kontexten lebte, zu verschiedenen Orten der Erinnerung, auf der auch immer wieder Fragen der Familienzugehörigkeit und der eigenen Geschichte in den Vordergrund rücken. Die behutsam eingefangenen Gespräche der Zwillinge, Nachfahren des ersten senegalesischen Präsidenten Léopold Sédar Senghors, werden auf intelligente Art und Weise mit Konzepten der Négritude der 1930er Jahre in Verbindung gebracht. Fatou Kandé Senghor versucht nicht eine Antwort auf die Frage der Identität zu finden, vielmehr stößt sie die Diskussion um den Begriff selbst an.

Im Anschluss an die Filmvorführung finden ein Publikumsgespräch mit der Regisseurin Fatou Kandé Senghor sowie ein kleiner Empfang im Kino-Foyer.

Synopsis
Der doku-fiktive Film „L'autre en moi/The Other in Me"ist die Geschichte von den Zwillingsbrüdern Léopold und Etienne, die beide im Senegal geboren sind, in der Folge jedoch sehr unterschiedliche Lebenswege einschlugen. Der eine kehrte bereits mit zwanzig Jahren aus den USA in den Senegal zurück, der andere lebt bis heute in den Vereinigten Staaten. Letzterer macht sich nun auf die Reise, um mit seinem Zwillingsbruder seine senegalesische Familie sowie verschiedene Schauplätze ihrer gemeinsamen Vergangenheit und die eigene Geschichte kennen zu lernen. Ihr einflussreicher Großvater Léopold Sédar Senghor, erster Präsident des unabhängigen Senegals, Poet und Verfechter der Négritude, nimmt bei ihrer Suche nach den eigenen Wurzeln eine maßgebliche Rolle ein. Der Film lebt von den vertraulichen Einblicken in die Gespräche der Zwillinge, ihrer persönlichen Suche nach einem Zuhause, dem Platz in der Gesellschaft und der dabei immer wieder kehrenden Frage und Diskussion um Identität.

Fatou Kandé Senghor über ihren Film:
„Der Film erfüllt seinen Zweck, er hat mir ermöglicht, auf eine andere Art über Migration zu sprechen: es geht nicht um Transportmittel, sondern um die Ziellinie. Die Leute gehen fort, weil es notwendig ist. Nachdem sie einmal dort sind, mehrere Kinder haben, ist es schwierig, zu einem angebrachten Rhythmus zurück zu kehren. Es gibt viele Faktoren im Leben unserer Eltern, die man nicht verurteilen kann. L'Autre en Moi be- und verurteilt sie nicht, sondern erzählt ein Stück reales Leben, damit die Menschen verstehen, dass man sich im Leben manches nicht aussucht, wenn man jedoch aufmerksam ist, kann man unliebsamen Zufällen vorbeugen."

Regisseurin: Fatou Kandé Senghor
Fatou Kandé Senghor, 1971 geboren, lebt in Thiès/Senegal und ist Filmemacherin, Fotografin, Autorin, Feministin und kulturelle Aktivistin. Mit ihren künstlerischen Projekten im Bereich Film und Fotografie war sie unter anderem in folgenden Kontexten eingeladen, ihre Arbeiten zu präsentieren: Fotografie-Biennale in Bamako (2003), Biennale Dak'Art in Dakar (2004, 2006, 2008, 2010, 2012), Talent Campus der Berlinale in Berlin (2007, 2008) sowie Ausstellung „Snap Judgments: a Vision of African Contemporary Photography"(2006) in New York. 2013 war sie Jurymitglied beim FESPACO für den Prix UEMOA.

2001 gründete sie das Waru Studio in Dakar, ein Laboratorium für die unabhängige kritische Filmproduktion sowie Ort für Künstlerresidenzen und Austausch unter KünstlerInnen. Momentan unterrichtet sie unter anderem Regie im Bereich Film- und Videoproduktion. Ihre neueste Publikation „Walabok"zur senegalesischen Hip-Hop-Szene erscheint im Januar 2014 im Senegal.

On Sunday, 2nd of February 2014 at 5.30 pm AfricAvenir invites to the German premiere of the fictional documentary "The Other in Me" (L'Autre en Moi, original with English subtitles) with Senegalese director Fatou Kandé Senghor in attendance. The movie shows the joint journey of American-Senegalese twins who lived in different contexts for decades. During their joint trip to different places of remembrance questions about family belonging and their own history come to the fore. The carefully documented conversations of the twins, ancestors of the first Senegalese President Léopold Sédar Senghor, will be intelligently connected to concepts of Négritude of the 1930s. Fatou Kandé Senghor is not trying to find an answer to the question of identity but rather initiates a discussion about the term and concept itself.

Following the screening there will be an audience discussion with director Fatou Kandé Senghor as well as a small reception in the foyer.

Synopsis
Senegalese artist Fatou Kandé Senghor immerses in a journey down memory lane. She engages in a dialogue with her husband ETIENNE and twin brother Leopold about IDENTITY, BELONGING, CONNECTING AND TIES through the concept of NEGRITUDE developed in the 1930's by POET and PRESIDENT LEOPOLD SEDAR SENGHOR. As they unfold their thoughts and words, Fatou reveals a perfect metaphor with the lives of ETIENNE and LEOPOLD SENGHOR, also gran sons of LEOPOLD SEDAR SENGHOR.

LEOPOLD and ETIENNE are twin brothers. They were born in Dakar in Senegal. They moved to the USA when they were seven years old. Etienne came back to Africa 18 years ago following a wake up call. Leopold has been coming back to Africa regularly in the past 5 years.

When Leopold Senghor gets off the plane from Washington DC where he lives to the registration desk, at the airport in Senegal and hands out his passport, the immigration officer takes the American passport in his hands and opens it. He notices the name of the passenger in front of him and floods him with questions.

It has become a ritual, and then when he comes out of the airport, that sign is there to remind him of the namesake. It reads LEOPOLD SEDAR SENGHOR INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT.

This is the story of belonging, connecting and links, it's a story about history, geography, community and identity. How one has to struggle to be, to belong, and strengthen after being cut from his own.

They both are at a different pace re-capturing data belonging to them while their similar faces continue to create confusion amongst their family and friends.

„The movie serves its purpose, it opened up the opportunity for me to discuss immigration differently: the issue is not the means of transportation but rather the finishing line. People leave out of necessity. Once they are there, have several children, it becomes difficult to return. There are many aspects in our parents' lives we cannot condemn. The Other in Me does not judge or condemn them but rather tells a snatch of real life, in order for people to understand that even though there are many things in life you cannot choose, you can prevent unpleasant coincidences by remaining mindful."

Fatoumata Bintou KANDE was born on January 9th, 1971 in Dakar, Senegal. Her artist name is Fatou Kandé Senghor. She created an artistic research platform called Waru Studio in Dakar that works like an experimentation lab, allying - Art- science-technology -Ecology-environment and Politics. Waru in Wolof language means "wonderment" and the platform is an incubator that combines all these sciences using new technologies. Convinced that art in Africa is an efficient weapon to address and resolve issues that concern Africans, and touch others in the world. She also works with young artists that need to broaden their discourse. In her own work she uses mediums such as photography, video, printing to raise consciousness around her. She produces conceptual art, and does not believe in art for art sake.
