The 2006 Festival Film Jakmèl will feature an international selection of documentary, animation and fiction films. Programs parallel to screenings will include workshops in filmmaking, public awareness seminars, educational outreach programs, cultural exhibitions and performances, and a traveling festival. All presentations are free of charge.

The principal festival in Jacmel attracts tens of thousands of spectators from local and surrounding areas. Projections are held in various locations around town, including the city's historic coffee houses, public squares, schools and civic buildings. At night, under the stars, audiences are invited to outdoor screenings on the town pier.

Following the week long Festival in Jacmel, a pared down selection of films will join our traveling festival and go on to be shown in Port-au-Prince, Cap Haitian and Les Cayes. Throughout the year, the festival co-presents Yéle Cinema, with Yéle Haiti.

Festival Film Jakmèl is dedicated to delivering some of the most important films from its selection to local audiences in Haiti's native tongue, Creole. Due to the high rate of illiteracy in Haiti, subtitled films can only be viewed by a certain percentage of our audience. Therefore, the Festival has a team of translators, audio engineers and actors who work year-round to record a selection of films in Haitian Creole.
