The Apollo Film Festival now in it's Eighth year, promises to deliver yet another exhilarating edition. The only one of its kind in South Africa, the festival prides itself in promoting strictly South African Films. This important event in the South African Film Calendar will run from the 2nd to the 5th of October this year at the Apollo Theatre in Victoria West. The Apollo Theatre is also a heritage site in Church Street, and is one of the last remaining art deco cinemas in the country and forms part of the Apollo Development Association - a community based organisation aimed at creating youth and economic development through culture and tourism.

This year the festival has received well over 12 feature films, 25 documentaries and more than 29 short films, illustrating how popular the festival has become. The wide range of films depicting a miscellaneous rendition of crime, violence, social factors and the current political crisis promise to deliver an alluring - stupendous event for film enthusiasts. Do not to miss out on high profile topical films like Jerusalema, Triomf, Bakgat, Bergie In My Boot, Kamkastig Land and Umalusi to mention a few of the draw cart's for this year festival. The Oude Scholen, Oude Pastorie & Kingwills B&B are just some of the town's renowned top class service accommodation facilities that offer reasonable prices - you'll definitely come again. This year we will revisit the moonlight walk and for the first time we will have donkey carts transporting people around town.

Some of the hotspots in town would be the Merino Restaurant, try their succulent lamb's neck or well - heeled menu. Pop in at Ali's Tavern or Rabbits Den for a game of pool and a beer cause it will be hot, or visit Victoria West Trading and treat yourself to some fantastic rugby memorabilia; this place belongs to the legendary Oom Mannetjie's Roux.

The organisers would like to thank the National Film and Video Foundation for their continued support and belief, the filmmakers for their high valued contributions both in attendance and providing films, the community of Victoria West for their overwhelming support. Hope this year it's going to be even better. I also wish to thank the Board of the Apollo Development Association for their input. To all the other guys that outdid themselves in organising the festival in such a short time, Mandisa, Nazeer, Siyanda, Steven, Nodi, Unita, Toby and Tania danke schön.

Enjoy the festival.
