Nadine Gordimer : a woman, a writer, a South African. Her excellent reputation in the anglo-saxon world helped her to stay in her country during the most difficult times of apartheid. Benevolent, but inflexible, her personality seems to reflect the rigour with which she conducts her life and work. A "humanist by religion", an emblem of the struggle against segregation, a member of the ANC, nevertheless she did not hesitate to approve using arms before the courts. She reveals the horror of apartheid through the words and bodies of her heroes and heroins, as well as revealing their shadowy side. The rhythm of the film is suggestive of the battles this woman has waged and continues to fight.
