In Tangier, Aicha, a young woman, decided not to follow the path that was marked out for her and refused to marry her brother in law, after the passing of her husband. This is the mirror of Aicha's destiny, becoming step by step a little girl, a woman, a mother and a widow, that many moroccan women can identify with...

"ARAIS MIN KASSAB is not only a film about women, it is also about people who are subjected to humiliations. I chose to direct Farida Benlyazid's screenplay because I found the subject beautiful, strong and consistent. Nothing in it is artificial or invented, it is a news item which arouses indignation. I have never felt so concerned and I would have liked to say much more about what people are going through: victims of the old institutions known as customs and traditions, that make people strong and sure of their rights; But I don' consider these images to be the end neither of my words nor of Farida's words because us and many others are still thinking about these questions."
